AFM has been shortlisted in both the "Aspiring Star" and "Innovation" categories for the 2018 Guernsey Construction & Property Awards. The winners will be announced at the gala Awards ceremony, which will be held at Beau Sejour on Thursday 8 November.
Aspiring Star award
The future of the property and construction industry in Guernsey is dependent on the development and commitment of new talented individuals in today’s businesses. Therefore this category highlights and recognises those whose efforts and abilities exceed expectations and are clearly ambassadors for the industry; encouraging them to go onto even greater achievements in their careers. As this is an aspiring star award, a nominee should be expected to have room to grow and not have already achieved their ultimate goals.
Nominations are for candidates who are:
• In the early stages of their careers (e.g. a trainee, student, apprentice or someone new to the property/construction industry and reskilling).
• Able to evidence high standards of work.
• Developing as a positive role model for young people within his/her organisation or the wider sector.
• Able to demonstrate progression within his/her career, outlining all relevant training undertaken.
• Committed to the long-term future in the industry.
Lead Project Manager Shaun Rouxel was nominated by AFM Guernsey's Head of Projects Chris Tardif who said, "Shaun has become a leading star within the Guernsey Projects Division, despite only coming ‘off the tools’ two years ago. His obvious drive and determination has seen his rise from learning the role of a Project Manager to leading all the Project Managers in the division within this short timeframe."
Innovation award
Delivering projects in a constantly changing environment of regulation, design and development and an ever increasing and ever more demanding market place is challenging. The industry constantly embraces this challenge and employs new and innovative solutions to deliver these projects.
This award category acknowledges the innovation of the industry across all areas. From the planning and design of the project, the contract procurement and management, the use of new products, off site construction, frontline and back office support and the application of construction methods through to the monitoring of the final performance of the building. This can be a people award, system or process that has provided innovation to your business or project.
AFM and Savills formed a collaborative relationship to deliver a major M&E refurbishment of Dorey Court on behalf of the building owner, Brockton Capital. This included the employment of a utility helicopter to replace two 4-tonne chiller units on the roof of the building. AFM and Savills jointly submitted a nomination for the Innovation award as both parties have been impressed with the benefits of closer partnering between contract manager and contractor. Innovation has been the driver throughout the life of this project.
