Amalgamated Facilities Management Limited in Guernsey have been working very closely with Guernsey Work Experience (GWEx) over the past 15 years and have taken several year 10 and 11 students from across the various schools on the island under their wings.
Martyn Pipet, Senior Manager said “AFM’s unique reference number is 56, which indicates that we were amongst the very first employers on the island to join this extremely successful scheme, and the numbers are currently starting in the 1,000’s!”
By offering block work experience to 14-16 year olds, this has allowed them to experience the varying aspects of the building services sector that AFM are involved in covering a range of disciplines from air-conditioning, mechanical & electrical, to plumbing, drainage and building fabric works.
Over the years, some of the students who have joined AFM for work experience have been offered apprenticeships with us and are now well on their way towards achieving their goals and realising their dreams of becoming fully fledged tradesmen.
Michele Clark, GWEx Manager said “AFM also take students on one day a week extended placements which have proven to be an invaluable source of motivation to students by encouraging them to continue with their studies and show them the value of education.”
Over the years AFM have seen a steady increase in the number of students wishing to undertake work experience with us in varying disciplines and not even one month into the new year and we already have 3 students scheduled in to join us during 2016.
AFM now offer three “opportunities” for work experience in hard services, soft services and in project management and office administration sectors which helps to provide an insight into the breadth of opportunities on the island.
Michele Clark, GWEx Manager added “We would like to thank all the staff at AFM who have taken an interest and worked with many of the students on placement to help inspire them for their futures”
