As part of our commitment to the Islands’ communities, AFM chooses a charity to partner with each year. Applications are open to all charities in Guernsey and Jersey and the proposals and the entries are then put forward for all colleagues to vote. This year we are delighted to announce that in Guernsey the chosen charity is ‘Guernsey Alzheimer’s Association’ and in Jersey ‘MacMillan Cancer Support’. As well as providing support for fundraising, our primary aim is to provide expertise and valuable time to support these charities, which depend on the private sector to be able to deliver their incredible support services to our local communities.
One of the first events we supported is the Jersey MacMillan Rowathon on 30 April 2022. 24 rowing machines and 20 school benches had to be collected from various gyms and schools across the Island before being transported to the event location and returned the following day.
Ian Spry (AFM Lead Contract Manager) coordinated the collection and drop-off and with the assistance of Dai Edwards (AFM Legionella Risk Assessor) ensured that all items were in place for the event and returned safely.
Mark Couchman AFM Director commented: “Supporting our charity partner is not all about shaking buckets and baking cakes. Utilising our skill sets and AFM’s versatility to add real value is a key focus to supporting Macmillan. I would personally like to thank Ian & Dai for giving up their own time over the weekend to support such a great cause”.
