The transformation of the changing rooms down at La Vallette Bathing Pools was revealed on Friday 12th February to a crowd of local people including the swimming club who had waited patiently for the past six weeks to get their facility back.

AFM decided to take on this mammoth task as it was something we could do for the local community and visitors to our island who would utilise the changing room facilities in the months/years to come.

Karen Girdlestone, business development and PR manager for AFM said “we were approached by the Legacy Team who were looking at the whole La Vallette project and asked if we could offer any assistance to the cause. Having visited the antiquated, damp and dreary changing rooms this seemed to be the most logical challenge for AFM as it involved all our varied trade skills from electrical to carpentry and plumbing to decorating. Over a six week period, both full time staff and volunteers who gave up their evenings and weekends to help out in any way they could managed to totally transform these facilities with a new roof, new kitchen, new lockers and even installed a baby changing unit for all the Mum’s. For the first time ever, bathers will also be able to enjoy a hot shower after their swim. AFM were proud to hand them back to the States of Guernsey at an official unveiling ceremony which saw Bernie Savage (at 88, the oldest swimmer) cut the Ribbon to unveil the newly refurbished facilities. The event was extremely well attended and the feedback from everyone has been simply amazing”.
