AFM Plumbing Apprentice takes part in National Skills Competition

AFM Jersey plumbing apprentice, Hannah Willcocks, recently took part in a the Isle of Man Construction Federation “Skills Test: Be The Best” Competition. Hannah is in the third year at Highlands College as part of her apprenticeship for the AFM’s Projects division.

The competition is in its fourth year and brings together around fifty apprentices from across the islands to compete against each other in an exciting construction challenge. For Hannah and her plumbing peer group, the task consisted of a design interpretation and installation of a complex copper piping system. AFM covered the cost of Hannah’s time to attend whilst Highlands College, supported by Garenne as part of their ongoing sponsorship, picked up the travel and accommodation costs for Hannah and the other three students that travelled.

Hannah said, “I hope [the competition] will encourage more people to consider construction as a career option, an industry I am very proud of. Learning a trade is such a valuable skill.”
