AFM are refurbishing the changing rooms located at the Ladies Pool area at La Valette bathing pools as part of their CSR activity for 2016 and to provide enhanced facilities for all locals who utilise this service. The changing rooms are in a terrible state – damp and antiquated, so AFM decided to get involved with the public/private partnership to overhaul the facilities at La Valette to give something back to the public. By enhancing the changing rooms and kitchen area we felt this would assist the Legacy Team project being headed by Pat Johnson and Andrew Pouteaux. Earlier this year, the Legacy Team was overwhelmed by the public support it received to a call for volunteers to help clear large areas to enable the refurbishment to go ahead.
Both AFM staff and volunteers will be helping out during the six weeks refurbishment programme and we will also be donating a few “surprises” which will help to enhance the overall look and feel of the current building.
The project commenced on 4th January and the changing rooms and kitchen areas will be totally stripped out and will undergo quite significant changes over the next few weeks including a new roof, complete rewiring and the installation of additional shower facilities and electric water heaters to allow the bathers to have hot showers after their swim. The aim is to restore the Victorian splendour that was once present and all will be revealed when the refurbished changing room facilities are handed back on Saturday 13th February prior to the Grand Opening on the 14th February.
